Background Jo
Carpenter set up her own classical music PR consultancy
in 2005. Previously she worked for nine years at Select Music and Video
Ltd as Head of Press. Here she managed a wide portfolio of labels and
from 2001-2005 promoted the best-selling classical label Naxos
- Classic FM/Gramophone Awards Label of the Year 2005. Artists
she promoted on this label included Marin
Alsop, Peter Maxwell Davies, the Maggini Quartet, Peter Donohoe, David
Lloyd-Jones, Ashley Wass, Jean-Claude Casadesus and
José Serebrier. Other
classical record labels Jo has promoted at Select Music include the
French label Naïve (artists
include Rinaldo Alessandrini,
Sandrine Piau, Sergei Khachatryan and Anne Gastinel); John
Rutter’s own label Collegium
Records; the specialist
Swedish label BIS (artists
include Emma Kirkby, James
Macmillan, Bach Collegium Japan, Osmo Vänskä, Sally Beamish and
Freddy Kempf) and the much-loved label of the Tallis Scholars, Gimell.
DVD labels she has publicised include the prestigious BBC
Opus Arte label, Arthaus
and TDK. Events
and Launches Jo
has managed many prominent classical industry events and launches.
Examples include the Naxos 18th Birthday celebrations
held in May 2005 at London’s Hellenic Centre, a label launch for Naïve
at No.1 Great George Street, and the launch of a world premiere
